When you are operating with large numbers of students and/or staff it is critical to be sure that communications on any site whether school or university campus that the solutions can easily handle many participants. Safety of Security Staff
Security staff every day can be right in the firing line for dangerous situations or threats. It's a fact that security personnel as part of the job from time to time could get seriously injured or suffer the loss of life. So communications MUST be robust and reliable whatever may happen. Today walkie-talkie radios are far different than the old 'clunky' systems sold historically and they now include on many of the handsets both a 'Lone Worker' and a 'Man Down' solution that is exactly what you need.
Lone Worker Security
Security officers face a difficult job that somehow these days appears to be getting harder. With third parties just wandering on-site who knows what could happen? But in many two way radios today the lone worker system is on-board. That addition can ensure that security can be monitored, and communications between officers can even be covert by listening in to conversations between officers and third party's. These systems (with other features) can determine the location of other security personnel that could attend if necessary. There are so many features for lone workers we cannot possibly cover them all here, but a short list of some features includes:
- Possible to send a pre-setup signal to other users that could be a alarm for example
- Continued monitoring of users; like a call in every 30 minutes; no reply? then other actions can be taken
- Location with GPS features
- Audio monitoring and listening in
And sometimes the lone worker features can be confused with the 'man down' features because often they are very similar. The fact is, that lone worker and man down are both very desirable and often essential for security and safety of officers.
Man Down Safety
Often confused as lone worker, but usually included in modern radios is a 'man down' ability. If an employee for example is part of the team using radios (maybe for maintenance in remote areas) and he suddenly becomes ill. Often they will either pass out or lie down, and the 'man down' aspect will kick in. Usually the handset will have detected that it is now not vertical, and will give the user maybe 30 seconds to respond by pressing a button to confirm they are safe and OK. However, if the employee does not press the button then the team are notified to other radios to assist. GPS location is also involved so that others know the location of the employee in distress. So anyone that could be in danger or have health issues these extra safety and security features are well worth having on your walkie-talkies. Note that under the law employers are responsible for keeping employees safe, and this is one of the solutions available.
