How to extend the range of a paging system without repeaters
Sometimes because of site limitations it might be impossible to install a signal boost repeater like the TX-7471 repeater from LRS. In those cases there are limitations on the output power by OFCOM, but without the extended range the paging system is useless. So what can be done to improve the signal further. It's a little known fact to customers buying a paging system that just an antenna might give adequate gain compared to the standard antenna as supplied.
The 2 metre (or 7 foot) antenna can improve the signal. Some antennas have a Db gain figure that can make the signal appear to be more than if you did not use the antenna! 1 Db gain can make the output an 'equivalent' of twice the power! It increases the 'ERP' or 'Effective Radiated Power'. So the antennas can be one way of extending range easily.
Certain systems require extra signal strength because of the building infrastructure. The 7 foot (2 metre) antennas are capable of boosting the signal over larger areas without the cost of signal boosting specialised equipment.
