Alphanumeric or text messaging pagers have been around for years. And it's no mistake that they are still widely used even today. Firstly the mode of communications - text, offers the user an unambiguous communication that most users will understand. And on-site pagers factually are the most reliable methods of communicating between staff that there is. The messaging pager as it's sometimes known was invented back in 1921 but not really in this exact form. Later the pager as we know it was created by Al Gross and patented in 1949 so we could say that the technology really has been a favourite of many ever since because of the reliability of the systems.

The 'alpha' or text pager as its still known does not depend on any other system to work - its stand alone (but can be integrated in to other technologies) by default, but because only the pager system is involved in the transmission and reception of the message it's so reliable. Other technology like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth most often derate the communication process because those are not as robust as a paging system and often introduce a secondary technology... that really can make the communication less reliable. And in most areas that text messaging or alphanumeric pagers are used reliability is the key. Imagine where security or safety is involved? And then the message failed? The CT text 'alpha' messaging pager has been developed in to a custom design that is only available in this brand (This is a Capture Technologies pager) for use with other LRS products.

The brand new LRS VIBE PLUS text message alphanumeric pager is available from January 2026 as the replacement for the older 4 line device from LRS. Note that the CT custom pager (with this blue front) is fully compatible with all LRS systems and the LRS VIBE+ is also completely compatible as it is an LRS device.
